Pet Airlines, the company for travelling animals

July 14th, 2009

A new airline for pets is taking off with weekly flights to five airports across the country. Beginning July 14, Pet Airways is flying pets to and from Baltimore/Washington International; Midway in Chicago; Rocky Mountain Airport in Broomfield, Colo., near Denver; Hawthorne Municipal Airport near Los Angeles; and Republic Airport on Long Island serving the New York City metro area.

The airline allows cats and dogs to travel in carriers in the main cabin of the plane, rather than the cargo hold. While some airlines allow small animals to fly in the cabin as long as their carriers fit under the seats, Pet Airways has no limit on size.

The carrier will not transport human passengers other than crew and attendants to care for the animals during flights. Pet owners will have to fly separately.

One-way fares start at $149. Many of the flights on the airline’s limited initial itinerary are already booked full with a waiting list depending on the animal’s size.

To prevent pets from getting sick, there won’t be any beverage or snack service.

Ryanair to bill you for your personal and nontransferable basic physical needs

February 27th, 2009

One step beyond. Ryanair will bill you 1 pound for using the toilette on board. In an interview on BBC television this morning, Mr O’Leary said that the low-cost airline was looking at the possibility of installing a coin slot on the lavatory door so that “people might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny.

Mr O’Leary said that Ryanair was determined to make air travel easier and more affordable.

“I don’t think there’s anybody in history gone on board a Ryanair flight with less than a pound,” he added.

Later, Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said: “Michael makes a lot of this stuff up as he goes along and, while this has been discussed internally, there are no immediate plans to introduce it.

“However, this highlights Ryanair’s continuing obsession with lowering costs and passing these savings on in the form of lower fares.

“Ancillary revenues, all of which are avoidable, help to reduce the cost of flying Ryanair and passengers using train and bus stations are already accustomed to paying to use the toilet so why not on airplanes?

“Not everyone uses the toilet on board one of our flights but those that do could help to reduce airfares for all passengers.”

Will the video below become the future of Ryanair?

Majorca is set to be popular with holidaymakers in 2009 and it has also been revealed that the island is a favourite of some of the most famous faces in Hollywood.

Among them are film stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, Formula One racer Michael Schumacher, supermodel Claudia Schiffer and singer Annie Lennox – who have all had homes on the island.

And no wonder when there is such a selection of places of historical interest, outstanding natural beauty, art galleries, museums, theatres, clubs, shops and restaurants to visit.

In reflection of this, a list compiled by Skyscanner.net of the 50 most searched destinations by Britons planning to travel this year placed Palma in Majorca as seventh.

Co-founder of the search engine Barry Smith said: “This year, it’s all about making your money go as far as possible, which is why Spain remains an extremely popular destination for British travellers. It’s close, warm and still very good value. ”

¿The future of the airlines?

December 9th, 2008

‘Tis the season for hellish travel. If the prospect of getting on a plane makes you want to boycott the holidays altogether, you’re not alone. When the folks at MadTV put this skit together early this year, it was meant to parody the myriad ways that airlines nickel and dime their passengers — the clip shows passengers being forced to pay an extra charge for seat belts and an emergency supply of oxygen.

But the soaring cost of air travel and the elimination of even peanuts from cross-country flights is no joke anymore. Watch and weep.
